Hi, i'm trying to understand how important a VU meter on a mic preamp is, to some of us,,

Myself , I beeing novice and all, will probably depend on it until I know what things need to use "pad " or not, etc,,,
that's why I ordered mine with VU's

Years ago, I helped a guy build a studio in his barn in Ambler, PA. I did a little web searching toady, and found a reference to Bill as a senior design guy at Ensoniq. I'm not sure if he still works for them, as I understand they were taken over by Creative Technologies.

Is Bill Mauchly a member here? Do any of you folks know him personally? I'd like to say hello.

Is there any well established pro's currently working in music production full time?
I assume there are.
My question is: would anyone be interested in having a shadow for a little while?

My intentions are to learn new things, and different ways to do the things I already do, or ways to do it better.

Time to buy a nice pre. Looking for a better front end channel into that lowly beast of workstations, a 001. My only other pres are those in my 01V. I began looking at an RNP, coupled with either two RNC's, or a dbx dual channel compressor such as a 166. But now I've decided to go a little more high-endand am seriously considering this one, with the optional S/PDIF digital card.

I've been wondering how close I'm getting to tripping a circuit breaker. Do most of you run your equipment on one circuit, or are you upgrading to a 20 amp? Or . . . are you using more than one circuit?

How do you calculate when its time to look for more power?

OK...I gotta ask this question...is it worth upgrading from Cubase SX to NU2? I know that NU2 has some cool new features (delay compensation throughout, for example)...but will I really gain any HUGE benefit? They are offerring a "loyalty" upgrade price of $699 to go to Nuendo 2.0.
