I want to buy a 48V condenser mic, but my current preamp only has +36V. If I get a stand alone phantom power supply, how would i set it up? My current set up is this. Mic-->preamp-->computer. If i got a standalone phantom power supply would i need to run it through my preamp or can I just use this set up: Mic-->phantom power supply-->computer?

Well, I've finally taken the plunge into the digital world of recording. I've been happy using a Yamaha MT8X-II cassette based 8-track for years and hit the wall.

I have an old Proteus module with the classic clicking power supply problem. Dang voodoo power supplies, I hate them!
Anyway, I was wondering if I could simply use a power supply from one of my old computers. Seems to me that +5v, -5v, +12v, -12v from anything would power this unit.

API 500-6B and 500H use different power supply. Does that affecting the sound of preamp modules (512c)?
