Freeware MP3 trimmer that won't re-encode?
Forums
I need to chop an MP3 file, and all my editing software decodes MP3 files to edit them. I want a simple splitter that will chop the file where I tell it to, and it isn't worth $20 for me to get said tool.
Any tips?

My recording grear. Can I get pro recordings with this?
Forums
Soundcard = m-audio audiophile 2496
Mic = AKG D 72 S Dynamic
Mic2 = APEX 435 Condenser
Preamp = Bluetube PreSonus microphone preamp with instrument inputs.
I do not seem to be getting pro sounding recordings. Is there something in the chain here that is problem? Or the whole chain?
Thanks.
Perfect frequency range? Masking?
Forums
Hello everyone. I'm currently working on a lot of mixes using both mic'd tracks and MIDI...It's mostly a rock style of music and a little bit more dominant in the lower end frequencies. Im looking for any advice or info on how to space out instruments in the frequency range to avoid masking and get the most of out the lower end.

Mixer intermittent output
Forums
We're using a Mackie 1604-vlz pro mixer and have experienced intermittent audio out of Subs 1 and 2. It is independent of mike inputs.
Subs 3 and 4 are OK.
Any similar experience?
Don

Portico 5012
Forums
who has tried the Neve Portico 5012 on voices? I went to sound sessions and heard clips on acoustic and electric guitars. On the elctric it sounds great but on the acoustic u can hear to many distortion from the transformers. I wonder if anyone knows how it does on voices related to a Neve 1073 or a chandler tg

Simple piano recording setup: opinions?
Forums
I'm looking to record music on a baby grand, and have been reading a good deal online about mics suitable for piano recording that won't nuke my budget (saving up for $1000). I came across a guide online that suggests an AMT M40 on the piano and a GT67 in the crook (I'll opt for the less expensive GT57).

Mechanical Licensing Fees ?
Forums
How do most of you handle these expenses? If a prospective client asks you to submit a bid for say some location recording that you know will include recording some cover songs, do you include these fees in your estimate?

Recording Sax - scared!
Forums
Alright, so here's my small dilemma...
I am going to be recording some sax coming up here pretty soon for a rock song. The player is incredible, in fact he has a doctorate's in music (he is the band director at the local college as well), so I really don't want to screw this one up!
