After a very helpful previous post I now have more questions regarding recording Jazz guitar. I play fingerstyle and pick style jazz guitar on a custom built 7 string archtop through a Polytone Minibrute IV. I have been experimenting with recording some solo jazz pieces for quite some time.

any software equivalents of the same? any caveats?

Hi i heard from someone if i got a tube preamp for my AT4033CL it would make a world of a difference. I got the mic for $200 so I'm not looking at spending a lot. Im running the mic into an Alesis firewire Multimix, so I'm sure anything will be better. This mic will be used generally for vocals

I am getting ready to Record guitar tracks and need help getting setup.

I heard a hum/static through my monitors and headphones when using my Firepod... After a while, I eventually traced the problem to the power adaptor for my Laptop. When plugged in, there is a hum, and when not plugged in there isn't. This must be due to the ground... therefore, I'm trying to figure out the best way to solve this problem.

I have had this ART Pro Channel in my studio for years now and I would like to breath some new life into it. I ordered and installed Ei 12AX7 Elites and TungSol 12AX7 [ NEW PRODUCTION] tubes only to find that both had issues. The Ei's had +17 dB noisefloor over baseline factory tube. The TungSol tube has a bad harmonic distortion at about 300hz.

This is the first time I've ever posted on any forum...forgive me if my etiquette is off.

I have a cheap midi keyboard CME U-KEY powered by USB from my new mac Pro, and connected to the 003 from its midi out to the rack's midi in port. there are noises coming from the mac's internal speaker, so the usb connection is working OK, but within pro tools, whilst it mostly recognises there is a midi signal coming in, i cannot get any sound out of pro tools, and cannot load any 'patches'.

Which one is better?
They both connect with a PCI card.
The 192 has 12 mic preamps. ($1800)
The 24I/O has 24 inputs, but are all 1/4" inputs. ($1400)
Would it be better to get the 192 or get the 24I/O with a standalone rack set of mic preamps (for about $400-$600)?

I know it's not a great idea to mix and master your own songs, but unless my boss decides to double my salary I can't afford any of the studios around here so I bought my own "studio".
