My first external preamp

I'm wanting to take the next step and see how different my recordings sound with an external preamp. Right about now you're thinking to yourself, "What a loser! Never even purchased a real preamp yet." I'm currently using a Mackie 24 channel 8-bus board paired with a MOTU 828MkII A/D converter. Been recording with this gear for about three years.

SoundCraft Ghost vs. ?

I am looking for a new mixer and was leaning towards the Soundcraft Ghost 32LE with meter bridge. I was just wondering what the general opinion of that board is and if there is anything else out there in that same price range that is better that I should be seriously looking at. I mostly just record bands now but maybe some 5.1 later.

Thanks,
Steve

Quality Mixer?

I currently record on a Boss BR-864 and I don't like the limited amount of inputs. I want to move onto computer based recording and I have an idea on what I need to buy. I have a PC and I want to use that. I am thinking about buying an M-Audio firewire interface with the RCA and S/PDIF inputs and a mixer. I want a mixer with enough mic inputs to record drums that is under $300 dollars.

Outboard mixer?

Hey guys. I do all my recording through a crappy little M-Audio mobile-pre. Well, my mom bought me a 4 channel mixer for christmas. This is nice, but I'm wondering if I really need it since I basically do all my EQing on my DAW with Adobe Audition. Right now, the only benefit I can see to having it is that it has 4 mic inputs, which would be nice to have when I need to record some drums.

Recording Problem

Hello. I own an M-Box with Pro Tools LE 6.7. Im trying to record my guitar but ive encountered a problem with my distortion. Im using a Boss Metal Zone by the way. Anyways when i record, my distortion sounds like crap. I mic my cab 2 inches away with a Shure RS130 Dynamic. Is their any suggestions that you can give me that will help me get a better tone for my recordings?

Thank you.
