I am the head Pro Tools engineer at a studio with a Trident Vector 432. I think this console has a pretty nice sound. Part of my deal is I get to use it whenever it's not booked. Now the studio is getting pretty busy and I need a place to do my moonlighting at! I had a few questions about some gear I need to buy:

Hey everyone, I just want to start out by thanking everyone that responds to my posts. in the past few weeks of lurking and posting newbie questions. you've helped me turn my projects into respectable pieces of work (in my eyes). How can i obtain better results on a wide open stereo image? any tips? some tricks? panning tricks? converters?

If I were to get 2 RME Fireface 800 units would I be able to use an Apogee AD16x as the converters? Or would I need 2 seperate 8 channel units such as the Rosetta800?

Also, what is the ideal situation to use an Apogee AD16x to it's fullest potential?

I wanted to record the pod via S/PDIF thru the audiophile and when I changed the input to S/PDIF I got a loud hiss(air), I know this card has been out for awhile so I guess the question is am I doing something wrong or is it time to move to a new soundcard?

I still want to use the analog in's of the card, I just want to record the pod's unprocessed guitar thru S/PDIF.
