storage of cables
Forums
Is there a "proper" way of rolling up and storing microphone or instrument cables? I've heard/seen a bunch of different ways. I've seen the way where you twist it around your thumb and pinky and create a loop that goes through that you can hang on a peg, etc. But I've heard that it's bad to keep the cable so tightly wound. What about the good old elbow technique?

Whats a good temperature for a CPU?
Forums
I *think* I'm totally fine - but I want to make sure.
I just put together a killer system with a P4 800 mHz fsb, 3.0 gHz processor. I'm using the boxed set Intel fan. I'm using an Enermax 550 watt power supply with the extra intake fan on the side. I added two cooling fans to the front of the case.

The VU meter
Forums
I have just begun my venture into the recording world and have many questions without answers. First and foremost could someone explain the reasoning behind the VU meter that reads in negative decibels? I understand the concept of decibels as being a logarithmic scale to simplify the hearing process but why use a negative scale in recording . . . am I missing something?

converting from tape to CD
Forums
I've got what is probably a simple question.
I'm in the process of converting my band's old live shows from audio tape (regular store bought tapes) to CD. I'm recording into SoundForge 5.0 and just burning it out onto CD. Should I record at 88.2k-24 bit stereo or is 44.1-16 bit mono fine?
thanks,
Nick
