Time (re: Loose drummer)

This thread (Loose drummer) brings up an interesting point. Everyone swears up and down that time is the most important performance element for a drummer to master (and it is!), but very few people, even music educators, have any idea how to deal with, teach, or fix the problem of bad time outside of sitting down with a metronome.

Fiber optic cable

Sorry to be so full of questions, but it is all coming to me quickly. Is the optical cable that connects one ADAT to another ADAT the same as the 9 pin cable? Will it allow a transfer of a track (or 8) from one tape to another without the 9 pin? if not, what is the purpose and?or difference? (please) thanks again! loved the cat cleaning technique by the way:)!

DAT head cleaning?

KURT. I have a Tascam AD20 dat and it won't really play a tape correctly.(but it WILL record!) It skips through the music like a cheap burned CDr with crud and scratches on it. Does this thing have heads like an ADAT or cassette player, that could simply be dirty? if so, how to get in there. the tray is at an awkward angle and I dont want to trash it. THANKS AGAIN! chris

ADAT preventative maintenance

Kurt-you have guided me through my studio so far. .THANKS! next question. .what are a few simple things to do or know about for care of my ADAT's? I always put the tapes up after recording, and that's about all I know. Any suggestions? also, what REALLY is a good way to keep the heads happy for the longest time possible?
