I am putting together a office/internet computer for my studio and have a quick question before I try to install the HD. Do I need to purchase an Ultra ATA/133 PCI adapter card to use the HD I purchased with the mobo I have? And if so what are my purchasing options with price being the determining factor?

Hello...I'm about to build a computer for music-production. I'm gonna use a Asus P4PE-motherboard and Pentium4 2.0Mhz-precessor and 512mb Ram. My BIGGEST problem is, I don't know what graphic-card I should use. I got some demands:

I have the roland VS-840GX (digital 8-track) and am thinking of invisting in a computer dedicated solely to audio. Since the roland has digital out's for Coaxial (S/P DIF and EIAJ CP-1201) and Optical, would it be possible to record on the roland, then send to the computer without having to convert (A/D D/A) twice? Which way would be best?

Is it software or hardware? I am completely lost on this one. Thanks!

I think I finally found a site that I can relate to. It looks like a lot more experince here then the site gives itself credit for, so I hope my question is not too basic.

I know it's usually true that you get what you pay for in electronics, but this one has me wondering... is it any good?

So, what do y'all use your Mac for? Are you tracking? Composing? Mixing? Re-mixing? Double secret re-mixing? Mastering? Video Post?

I am awaiting the arrival of a new puter (WinXP/p4/2.4GZ/512mem/120gb HD) for the continued purposes of directing sequenced compositions from my Kurzweil workstation direct into soundcard. Then I will add vocals thru Joemeek and his friend "Marshall" MXL67. :) I have been using Cakewalk Pro8 and Cool Edit Pro 1.0 on my P2/333mz. Updating is probably needed here with the new system.
