If anyone has any advice, I'd be most appreciative in advance.

I'll be recording a theatre performance, 4 singers and a band. All the instruments and singers will be miked and going through a Mackie SR 24x4 board.

Since I don't have much experience with live boards, these are my questions:

i'm a home recordist. so my questions pertain to that level of gear and experience.

What are the benefits of using a hardware mixer
*(analog or digital) today?
As we all know, computers are getting faster and more powerful every month and can easily be used for virtual mixing, processing, mastering, etc...

With good mic preamps, good AD/DA converters, do we still need a hardware mixer?

I am recording my son's HS Jazz Band concert Thursday evening. Instrumentation is pretty typical: 5 saxes, 4 bones, 4 trpts, piano, bass, drums, & 3 vocals.

insert this little and poor looking beast in your drum tracks, vocals or anything that needs warmth and aural boost.
somebody said (on planetz forums) that it's like a true tape to apply on recorded tracks.

i made it with synthedit on w98, so there are two files (.dll, .dat) to paste in the vst plugin folder.

just curious where i can get the best deal on MRL tape. i am looking for 2" 15 ips MRL tape any help would be great. jason

Man, if the subject doesn't say it all...

We recorded my friend's daughter playing a spinet piano in their living room using two MXL 603s into a Fostex D824 at 24/48. There tracks were then transferred into Cubase for editing, EQ'ing, etc.

So... does anyone have any advice/tips on EQ'ing a solo spinet piano :(

So I am borrowing an Archos Jukebox Recorder 20 from a buddy. He just uses it for mp3's and some file storage but I want more! it has recording capabilities, but when recording the audio is nasty (self noise from the unit) and it only has a line in... Any suggestions on a portable hard disk recording unit that has decent audio inputs.

hey... for those of you who do r&b recording... looking to record male vox. Please suggest some mic/pre's that have that sound...
