Mixpander question?
What would you think would be a better choice in a 2 R.Ed. unit setup:
Getting a Mixpander9 for one R.Ed., or getting a Mixpander5 for each R.Ed.?
Obviously getting two Mixpander9 is the best. But...
Any input welcome.
Regards,
Fredrik Lidin

Mac OS 9.1 on PowerMac 9600 for PT?
I have been happily running Pro Tools 4.1.1 on my 9600 under OS 8.1 for a "long" time (in computer years). :D
I guess OS 9 and PT 5.0.x is as far as I can go with this, because (SURPRISE!) the "old" digi hardware won't work with what they're putting out now.

Resources for abstract SFX design?
Hey all. Basically I'm looking for some interesting books, articles, websites, whatever with some info on sound design. Actually I'm more specifically looking for abstract stuff, like lasers, swooshes, space sounds, monsters, explosions, magic sounds, and the like. Stuff for Sci-Fi.

How do you clean your console's surface.
Not just for dust, (we use a very soft paint brush for that) but for the hand and finger goo. (Sweat, and insert one of Fletchers four basic food groups.) Not that we allow any food or drinks near our desk but we do sometimes get in a hurry and forget to wash our hands, Duh! ;)
What type of cleaner do you use and what is the best method for getting around all the faders and pots.

Ahh That phat aggressive but in control drum sound. How
Allright so here is my situation, I'm in the middle of mixing a tune and it's style is along the lines of Kid Rock/Crazytown but a little more of a live thing. I'm getting close to the drum sound that I'm hearing in my head, but not quite. So I was wondering if anyone might be able to suggest something different that I might not have tried.

Large diaphragm & phantom power
Just a quick question. When dealing with big expensive studio mics that require phantom(or any condser, really), is it better to plug the mic in first, then activate the phantom power, or the other way around? Why?
Thanks,

PC DAW recommended tweaks?
Got a OC'd Celeron 633@790 with 192RAM running Windows 98. On my previous machine, I did all the tweaks I found over on the Prorec sight, vcache, virtual memory, etc. That article is about 3 years old now and I'm not sure if the recommendations are still valid. What tweaks have brought you increased performance?
