Power Speakers? PA Systems? HAAALP!

Hey there, community.

Tomorrow I'll (hopefully) be making my first big ticket purchase in terms of music/audio equipment.

It's a Yorkville Sound - YX15P 200 Watt 15+1-inch Powered PA Speaker.
Okay, everything's bolded all of a sudden. I'll get used to this forum soon enough.
Anyways, back to topic.

Is the Sennheiser Evolution series the new standard on tv?

Hi,
I am not in the business, I just record stuff at home, but I have noticed like on NBC, I am seeing Sennheiser (i think e945?) mics for handheld use where
before it was our trusty 58 or the Electro-Voice "hammer" mic. I was just wondering if people like Remy or whoever see this more and more? No reason for asking
other than I like learning about mics.

Interview with Mike Marsh, mastering engineer at The Exchange Studios

I recently added a new interview to my Oasis website and thought that some members of this forum may find it of interest; Mike Marsh mastered Oasis's album Be Here Now in 1997 and The Masterplan b-sides compilation in 1998, and has based this article on detailed notes he took during the original sessions at the Exchange studio.

Laptop recording strange popping issues

I acquired about a 5yr old laptop that I have fresh installed win7x86, removed all non-essential services and optimized the computer. I installed reaper and adobe audition on it.Issue: Using a Fast Track pro to record some guitar I got popping noises. Not standard crackling you get from latency but almost static like bursts of different loudness.
