FireWire 800/400 + Focusrite?

Hello there. I am going to buy a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24DSP interface, which will be working along with Shure SM7B or Shure Beta 58a. Right now I just need to choose which FireWire to use and I have no idea. Is there any difference between FireWire 800 or 400? And most important is 800 for every computer with FireWire? (got ACER 7730g)

Difference

Was going up peeps,I'm new to this, i have a little home studio,i have a m-audio fast track, but i want to upgrade, now would it be a good idea to get a better interface,or a better mic which one would make a bigger difference,i have a blue bluebird mic,i was think of getting the Apogee Duet 2... yeah thats my little home studio, maybe yall can give me tips on how to make it better

Can't get Audio to computer from mixer

Hey guys, so I've been doing this about 5 months and am still trying to learn the basics.

I recently bought a Yamaha MG124CX to familiarize myself with mixers and to do some small home recordings. Getting signal to the speakers is no problem. Its when I try to get the signal to my computer that gives me trouble.

I'll describe my signal flow to get everyone up to speed.

possible computer issues

I am currently doing home recording with Logic 8 on my Macbook pro that I purchased in December 2008. I want to get a new iMac in a few months when they next update and have a few concerns based on stuff I read online. I want to get it with a 256gb SSD and the 2tb ATA to run my OS on the SSD and maybe load my VST there (hopefully komplete 8 ultimate).
