I'm looking to add a relatively inexpensive CLEAN pre. Anybody, which flavor; Focusrite ISA one or Grace m101 ?

I was wondering how many of you guys use reference tracks to mix to. And if you do, are they mastered tracks?

I recently installed Pro Tools 9 on my Mac. I've been using Logic 9, but felt the need to give Pro Tools a shot. My interface is an E-MU 0404 USB and I've never had any problems with it in Logic. When I was setting up PT, I went to the Hardware Setup page and under "Peripherals" my E-MU was not there.

As explained, I have a nice clean Soundcraft Ghost 24 with Meter Bridge, and that old Transport Automation Section. It uses MMC Midi Machine Control to control any recorder so equipped. It also has automated channel mute, if I remember correctly.

It's been in a box in storage since 2000, so forgive any errors in memory.

For example: If I had an electronic drum kit (eg a DD502) and fancied expanding it, would I be able to, for example, plugin a Roland Ride cymbal (dual trigger) into the brain, and then send the Midi out to a computer and trigger samples with BFD2, utilising the dual trigger nature of the pad?

I just finished some demos for a cover band. I really liked the results for the most part but I definitely started slipping over the edge of using too much compression. What I'm wondering specifically, is if other people use multiple levels of compression at different places in the mix which end up overlapping?

I have the firestudio 26x26 and the Digimax FS. I recently got the digimax fs and have been encountering some sync errors by using only the ADAT sync.

The firestudio manual does not recommend to connect BNC to the Digimax, why? It seems like a better connection so I did it now and it seems to sync better.
