(Sometimes) Bad Signal-Noise Ratio when Recording Bass

So, its the weirdest thing, sometimes when I record bass I get a really clean signal, good sound, all sunny and clear...

...and then other times its like some evil beast inside my setup is hissing at me for not feeding it or something. Ok, its not THAT bad, but its still noticeably worse at some times than at others.

Windows 7 & Firewire interface, keep having to reset the legacy drivers. Annoying!

When I got my new DAW, I ended up finding out about the legacy driver trick to make your firewire interface work with Windows 7. However, I have to undo and then redo it every single time I reboot my computer. It sucks! Does anybody have any idea why this might be happening? If it helps, my interface is a Focusrite Saffire Pro 10IO

Thanks!

Converter

Converters take your sound and convert it to digital so you can record it digitally on your computer.

What are converters?
Digital Audio Converters, DACs, or Converters do just that; convert audio from analog to digital and back again. Therefore you will often see them referred to as A/D/A, or analog-to-digital-back-to-analog.
