I have music ideas. But where to start from in recording? Do I lay a drum track first? If so, how do I do that?

Which one is better and why?

I am curious as to if a USB interface would be fine for what I am looking for. I just want something rock solid that does not have any audio drop outs or clicks and pops. Not looking to do tons of simultaneous tracks. Maybe 3 at once at most.

I am looking for a pre to compliment what is available in the Duet. I enjoy the cleanliness and sheen of the Duet's pres very much. You could say I'm looking for something dirtier or rougher to contrast.

I read many posts last night about monitors, prices, placement, quality, etc etc

the thing is... I'm still wondering whether I should buy a pair of monitors, since some people say that it's not worth spending a few hundred dollars in cheap ones, and that you should rather get something on the high-end area, otherwise rather than spending you're wasting money.

this new place i got has,i would say possibly destructive static electricity. enough sometimes to send a loud spike through the PA when i move the master sliders.i tried a humidifier..doesn't seem to help.

What is the general opinion on this one? It isn't a C426 or anything I'm sure. And you know I need another mic. .that hole in my head has been healing up pretty nicely of late.

I've been using Cubase for some time to record myself at home.
Now I'm considering doing a live performance with my vocal mic and guitar plugged via E-MU into my laptop with Cubase running.

My uncle had a Roland XP-10 keyboard ever since the 1980's or 1990's, but since he used it a couple of times and put it away in its box, I decided to take it out many years later and he said I could have it. We bought a new adapter (lost the old one) and plugged it into an amp, and it was working perfectly.

Hello everybody, thank you ahead of time for your input here.

I've been getting pretty lately busy so if I'm not recording beats I should be doing something else which leaves no time for me to actually read about it and learn. I'm using an Alesis MultiMix8 USB mixer with an MPC1000 and MX1 hooked up to it and of course sound comes out when I'm playing it through my monitors but I can't get my DAW to recognize it so it could record them.
