Another look at the recording process
Forums
If you have all these things in place, will you get a good recording?
The right instrument, in the right room, with an appropriate microphone, in a good position, with a quality preamp.

Getting a better drum machine/software drum sound?
Forums
So, I've got the tough problem of not liking the sound I get out of software drum machines. I'm trying to get a nice studio drum sound for rock music. Usually, with this type of set up, the drums sound way too fake and leave me cringing. I've tried a few different programs but haven't really found one I've liked.
big band recording
Forums
Hi all,
Did a search and there's been nothing recent on the topic so...
I got the call to record the school's big band tomorrow. It's quite good, wins lots of awards and they're doing some great Gordon Goodwin charts.
Anyway - I've got 16 digital inputs. 8 channels of quality pre (4 Seb, 4 Sytek)

Homemade studio desktop?
Forums
I'm planning on building a Windows based system to mostly run Sonar 8 producer for audio production in home. I am planning on mostly using it for recording of live instruments and mastering, but I will do a bit of MIDI production too. What would you guys recommend for the CPU, motherboard, Ram, High capacity Hard Drives, case and power supply?

Laptop Multi-tracking
Forums
Good afternoon, recording experts. Am in need of a little guidance, if you could be so kind.
Am looking to record a live, multi-instrument-to-multi-track session on a laptop and am having trouble sleuthing a way to record more than two-tracks simultaneously.

Average takes before you get "the one" ?
Forums
Sometimes when I'm recording vocals it takes me quite a few takes, maybe 10-15, before I can get that one that really sounds good. Is this normal, or do I just suck? Or does it not matter as long as you can get to that really good one?
