I'm going to go on a one to two month long research project into preamps, and then I'll buy one. I don't want the cheapos and I won't ride the bus because I sold my car for one. I'm looking at these 8 channel ones and I think, my two channels on my mbox2 is almost one channel too many. I do everything in layers cuz it's just me. So can you stear me in the direction of one or two channels?

I've noticed that the Sennheiser 614 is apparently one of the superstar microphones for V/O work these days. When I was a full time V/O guy the U87, 414, RE20 or 421 were the king of the booth.

Figured it makes sense to post it in Live sound, as that's what it is. Sorry for the post length, but it's better than adding drips and drabs of information in later posts.

How does the impedance of a microphone impact the sound? I am comparing two mics that are rated 100 and 120 Ohms. Since impedance is a measure of electrical resistance, does this mean that the 100 Ohm model is more sensitive, or that it picks up nuance better, since it takes less force to move the coil?

I've been trying to get a this Tascam interface to work for a while now, and not having much luck.

It will record onto a digital audio track in Logic, but the latency (delay) is terrible and unusable. (both the recording and the monitoring)

I need a few new cables (XLR - XLR and XLR - TRS) and was thinking about making my own. I have been reading past posts and many people recommend makes of cable such as Mogami and Canare but I live in the UK and cannot find anywhere to buy them from. I am thinking about buying Klotz or Sommer cables with Neutrik connectors and have a few questions...

I uploaded two files to myspace, of the 320 MP3 kind and both have noticeable noise/HF artifacts. I don't think I can hear it through my headphones or speakers, but it is definitely noticeable on the page. Is this a myspace thing or something else. If it is a myspace thing, is there any way to fix it?
