Tracking with or without EQ
Forums
Hi guys, I've got a doubt about something: when I track drums, I always use a bit of EQ on the toms, just to scoop out a bit of the muddy low mids and make it sound a bit more natural, but I've heard that using EQ when tracking drums is something most recording engineers won't do.

Yamaha 01V96 as DAW recording device...
Forums
I was wondering if using a Yamaha 01V96 as a DAW recording device was a good idea?
If I would like to record 12 simultaneous channels via firewire into software (like cubase, or such), can the 01V96 be used as such?

to get -18dbfs
Forums
I read that I should get my peaks at -6dbfs and the rest at -18dbfs
so on my keyboard I can pound a single note and get -6dbfs at the peak and then the sustain will drop down to about -18
or I can pound a chord (which makes it much louder) so I have to adjust the input knob down
so should I use a chord to get my levels right?
is this the technique you use?

Surround panner questions
Forums
does anybody find any real use for a surround panner? I was looking at a Digidesign one that just came out... But it's friggen expensive.
Am I mistaken or is a panner just used for positioning the recorded sounds?...
Maybe someone can school me on panners and what they're used for.. Since your all so helpful =]

Anyone Tried A Prism Orpheus?
Forums
I am looking to build a professional sounding studio around my quad core DAW intel 9550 / PC. I have been on the lookout for a suitable mixer having been advised from several people despite current trends of going mixerless, mixers are the way to go. However as I have been asking around I have also been told firewire is actually slower than interfacing with pci socket.

M-Audio vs Alesis...
Forums
I am going to sell my Alesis IO26 and instead purchase a M-Audio board so that I can use Pro-tools. I purchased the Alesis IO26 unaware that I could not use it with my copy of Pro Tools...
I've narrowed it down to 2 M-audio devices...
The ProFire 2626, and the NRV10.

Mood and vibe
Forums
I'm beginning to realize that one of the big things that seperates the men from the boys is this "mood and vibe".. every pro album obviously has a different one, but they all have one. Most amateur recordings are seriously lacking in this department, among other things.
