I have a MOTU 8 pre and its been working great. it uses firewire. my laptop doesnt have a 6 pin so i run it 6 pin to 4 pin firewire.
its been working fine and still does with my friends laptop [we also use a different cable 6 pin to 6 pin] but now on my laptop i get HUGE amount of clipping no matter what i record or if i even import an audio file into SONAR.

Buying a notebook...which type of video card?
Forums
Hi, I am going to be making a new notebook purchase. I'm concerned with which type of video card will work well for audio software, such as smaart live (may be the most intensive on video?), nuendo, wavelab etc. I am looking into some lenovo notebooks, many of them have the nvidia quadro nvs. card, will the 140 model be good for these applications.
Macbook pro?
Forums
I was just curious as to whether or not a macbook pro would sufficient for recording. It would have to run Pro Tools LE and handle 96khz audio. If I got one, I'd probably go with the cheapest pro available (2.4 ghz core 2 duo, 2 GB RAM, 200 GB hard drive.)

XLR / TRS combo plugs
Forums
Hi
If I want to replace an XLR plug with an XLR / TRS combo plug, is it simply a matter of swapping them out. Or, is there any extra wiring on the combo?

Recorded SPDIF does not sound as good as SPDIF Input

Recorded SPDIF playback does not sound as good as original SPDIF input signal
I know when you record analog audio, the input monitor always sounds a little bit better than playback from the recording, because there is always some loss.
My problem, is that I'm recording SPDIF and I'm experiencing the same loss.
Route audio to another soundcard optical out.
Forums
Hi Everyone,
I wonder if anyone knows a way to accomplish the following:
I have an audio source going to the input of an Apogee Duet connected to an iMac 2.4 Mhz Core 2 Duo via firewire but would like to send that signal out on an the iMac optical out - any ideas?
Thank you for your help.
Kind regards,
Martin.

External Hard Drive (Pro Tools 7.4)
Forums
I am very new to Pro Tools as of yesterday. I am running Pro Tools LE 7.4 on a new laptop. I am looking for someone that would kindly list out some External Harddtives that I can make a choice from for Recording and Playing Back Audio. I am using a Digidesign 003 Rack Factory. I know that I need 7200 RPM with an NTFS file system for Vista Ultimate.

Live voice workaround
Forums
Disclaimer: the following ideas are based on the fact that I personally consider some of the Romanian live sound engineers as the evolutionary equivalent of a red-ass baboon - 90% of the time, they don't seem to hear the difference between boosting the mids and a clipping input stage. But I digress...

Recording electric guitar issue
Forums
Hello all, and thank you for your time. I'm taking the responsibility of recording the demos for my band, and one song requires the rhythm guitar to have a thick distortion. Basically the guy who wrote it in our band likes more punk styled stuff like the offspring (not really my cup of tea), so I've run into some issues.
