Hey, I've been lurking around here for a little bit now and have a question for the general recording public.
How do you guys feel about the PreSonus XMAX preamps? Where do they fall in the grand scheme of mic preamps?

Installed sound nightmare
Forums
Hey Guys -
This seems like the best place to put this...
So, I've been contracted to redo the sound in a 180 year old historic church near where I live. It's a very cool facility rich in history. The existing audio system, on the other hand, is not cool and rich in danger.
To start things off, electrical wiring in the building is all ungrounded.

dropout issues...
Forums
okay, this is the main problem I've had with all of my recording issues. Hopefully you guys can help me. I'm running a pc with xp, 2gb ram, amd x2 5200+ dual core processor... My DAW is Sonar PE 7 and the only thing semi-cheap on my computer set-up is a $150 mobile-pre usb interface.

The benefits of a mixer
Forums
Please help me understand the benefits of a mixing console over the software mixing capabilities of say PT, Logic, etc. (in the home studio context)
Is it pre's, greater accuracy in EQing, the visceral standpoint of turning a knob?
I know there are a million ways to skin the cat, so I'd just like to understand one more.
Thanks.

Hey,
I plan on tracking drums soon and I was wondering what people like for drum heads. I've got Evans G2 Coated on my toms and snare. for my kick I'm using an Aquarian Super Kick II for my beater side and a Remo Weatherking Coated Amb.
Also
How will my kick sound change if I take off the resonant side head off?

Screening process or reference check?
Forums
Do any studio owners have any process that they use to keep majorly undesirable clients out of thier studios? I'm just wondering as I am planning on opening up my project studio to the public next year. My studio is in my home and therefore, it's that much more important to me to not bring in people that I dont want around.

Recording With Edirol Fa66 preamp and Adobe Audition
Forums
I am a DJ and have used different programs to capture my mix CD's which isn't a very complicated task pretty much output to input type connection but I want to get into recording vocals. I have a Studio Projects B1 condenser mic, Edirol Fa 66 preamp and I am using Adove Audition. I have done some test recordings but seems the volume is really low.

Recording multiple drum tracks
Forums
When recording multiple tracks for a drum kit, is it better to set up each individual track so that the full kit sounds good prior to recording or is it better to have each track at it's full potential then mix it to how you would like it to sound after recording?
