If I have a 4x12 guitar cab in a small very dead vocal-booth type room, I know I will need the standard sm57 on the sweet-spot of the cab speaker, but would putting a condenser at a farther distance and getting the phase right make any difference to the sound?

I'm having problems getting a good tone recording acoustic guitar. i have an ovation custom legend, which i have always hated (biggest waste of $k i have ever spent), and am looking to trade it for something which will get me better results. my gibson jumbo is way too boomy and bassy as well.

Please excuse my naivité, but I'm not sure how to work through a problem.

First i wanna say i know very little bout recording so be gentle with me...
I recorded guitar with one condenser mic and i was rely happy with it but now i wanna record with 2 mics.

a voice, an ukulele rhythm track, ukulele solo, and djembe

the first options I am going to try:

1 - voice center, solo center, uke rhythm VERY slight left, djembe, mid-rightish

2 - voice center, solo middle, uke mid-leftish, djembe mid rightish

Any other brainbusting ideas?

I am recording stereo acoustic guitar. The only mics I have are a Shure SM57 and a Shure SM58 - so I'm using 1 near the 12th fret and 1 near the bridge.

My housemate has been gigging more and more recently and wants to record an album. Its all original inde / folk guitar + clean vocals.

how do you mic an ovation? its a deluxe celebrity.
