I'm just wrapping up a four song demo for some young rockers who play a very similar style to Tool, Poison the Well, Deftones, Primus, etc.

They need a CD to take to clubs to solicit live gigs.

I have a chance to get an Allen and Heath GS3 for my project studio for $700 US.

Opinions on A&H stuff?

This would be an upgrade from my current Mackie 1642VLZ - how are the A&H pres compared to the infamous XDR's?

I am trying to find some good guidelines on room dimensions for a drum recording/ mixing room. The actual structure I have a good feel for but where I'm stuck is what would be the best room dimensions for a basement - 7-8' ceiling.

I have read about golden dimensions but that doesn't seem to work with the ceiling height and maintaining a minimum room volume.

Maybe this topic has been beaten like the proverbial dead horse, but I'm a new kid on this particular block...so, I could really use some help.

I am ready to throw in the towel! I feel like SOS when he was building his system a few months ago where nothing was going right...This has been a disaster of monumental proportions!

Back in '94 I owned a pretty good analog 8 track studio. I left the industry for a while and am now going to be building a new studio that I want to be as professional as possible, something to really build upon. By September, I will have about $10,000 to work with.

I've been messin around with recording as a hobby all my life. I've been using a Tascam 244 PortaStudio and Cakewalk 6.0 on my computer, and have come into a little bit of cash. I want to set up a semi vintage analog studio in my basement, and have my eye on an MCI JH-24 2" 24 track, and an MCI 600 series console that a studio I know is selling cause their going out of business.

Thoughts please. I have a small "studio" that I am building up in my garage (yes, I am one of those). The only method of heating and cooling is via a window unit mounted to the outside wall and not in a window. I have thought that I could build a wall between the air cond. wall and my proposed control room.
