Building a home studio Don't know what?

Hey- i am home recording illiterate. I am trying to build a small home studio for demoing tracks before I could to a full studio. I don't know whether or not I should go usb interface, what programs, mics, and midi's to use? Or should I use a digital workstation with burner. I want to be able to create lots of sounds as well as recording acoustic and electric, and paino. Not sure what to do.

Need advise on building a home studio

I've been recording for about 5 years now. I used a Roland VS-880 for my first project and soon there after discovered Pro Tools. I did a few projects on a borrowed Digi001 and swore by Pro Tools for the next year. Later, I discovered Cubase SX and love it. A am still using it today. Most of what I do are simple projects for people that are wanting to demo there song.

A building for a small studio...

Im the type a guy who doesnt like to rent. This dislike of renting is enhanced when referring to renting a space for recording. Renting a space and then making alterations to a room to accommodate a proper studio doesn't really work. first off the owner will limit what you would likely want to do to the space and second you are spending so much money on a space you dont own.
