low level clipping and db level problems tt pro

hi all.
after many fruitless hours of research into this i have decided to irritate some of you with some questions :)

i am running a windows xp Cubase or reaper based setup with a Focusrite saffire pro 40 as the interface.
i also have a Focusrite twintrak(TT) pro with the a/d card installed.

clipping no matter what i record

I have a MOTU 8 pre and its been working great. it uses firewire. my laptop doesnt have a 6 pin so i run it 6 pin to 4 pin firewire.

its been working fine and still does with my friends laptop [we also use a different cable 6 pin to 6 pin] but now on my laptop i get HUGE amount of clipping no matter what i record or if i even import an audio file into SONAR.

clipping ISA 428

Hey folks i just bought the Focusrite ISA 428 about a month ago and the damn thing doesnt seem to work properly.

Ive tried different mics, cords, configurations and what I'm getting is a clipped signal half way up the meter(-8). It almost sounds like it is being overly compressed. This seems to be most problematic in the low end,but the general description is static, and muffled.

M-Audio 1010lt Control Panel Clipping

I'm recording into analog mic inout 1 on the delta 1010lt and in the control panel there is still clipping. and I'm not doing something simple to remove it. i cant figure it out and i cant seem to see what I'm doing wrong. I'm testing the input levels using just a vocal and its still clipping, i know there are preamps built into the two analog inputs for the 1010lt.
