Pre-Amp clipping DAW at -10dB!

002R clocking to M-Audio Octane via ADAT.

The Octane's dB meters shows the signal to be around
-20 to -10 dB but the Pro Tools input meter shows it clipping badly.

And, listening to it, it is clipping badly.

I have to keep the signal at -20dB or below on the Octane's front panel to avoid clipping within Pro Tools.

removing pops and clicks (soft clipping noise)

Hello People,

Recently I've recorded a show as a matrix (sbd+audience microphones).
The soundguy used a digital soundboard Yamaha.
It was an acoustic show.
On the loud parts, there are some clicks and clipping (soft) as it was a vinyl.

How could I remove that ? (remove or attenuate)

Remove clipping distortion through phase cancelling?

Forums

I just tried this crazy experiment, and I need help understanding the results.

Here's what I did:

1. I turned up the final output volume in my mastering chain so loud that it created very noticable digital clipping in the loud sections of the song. I exported this song.

2. I then exported a quieter version with no digital clipping.

My vocals keep clipping?

Forums

My Vocal chain is a Audio-Technica 3035 into a Grace Design 101 into a Yamaha MG10/2 with a Samson C.com16 compressor in the line imput. If I turn my pre-amp down I can't hear my vocals in the headphones when recording. I really not sure how to turn down the incoming volume and still get a strong sound in. Im at the point of either getting a headphone amp or another mixer.
