Description
Dynamic range compression (DRC) or simply compression is an audio signal processing operation that reduces the volume of loud sounds or amplifies quiet sounds, thus reducing or compressing an audio signal's dynamic range. Compression is commonly used in sound recording and reproduction, broadcasting, live sound reinforcement and in some instrument amplifiers.

Mix Bus Compression

I would like some hints about applying compression across the mix bus. I'm unsure about attack and release times, ratio, and threshold parameters. I understand what these parameters do, but don't feel confident setting them. I'm using an AMEK 9098compressor in Pro Tools. I'm doing a lot of pop/rock mixes. If anyone has any thoughts I would greatly appreciate some direction.
