Description

Equalization in sound recording and reproduction is the process of adjusting the volume of different frequency bands within an audio signal.

outdoor EQ help requested

Would appreciate any words of wisdom regarding FOH and monitor mix guidelines for the following outdoor gig I am helping put together. Our band is playing in the backyard with the equipment and sound facing away from the house to a large open area with a row of tall trees about 75 feet back. We'll be using a couple of JBL 925's (2 way 15") with a powered sub for FOH.

Eq Question

Forums

It is my understanding that boosting frequencies with an EQ will cause phase problems. Cutting frequencies will not cause these problems.

I don't understand the physics of this.

Is this due to time delay's in the EQ's filter?

Does this happen with all EQ types?

Is the phenomemon just ostensible? or related to specific sound cycle lengths?

Got Speck ASC EQ and trial MicPre 5.0

Forums

I bought the ASC EQ after seeing its flexibility and talking with Vince Poulos.

I also decided to check out the MicPre 5.0 which seems like absolutely the most SS bang for the buck. I've never actually seen a pre with this kind of routability/features, so I'm giving it a spin. I can either keep it or send it back--Vince'll do that for you.

How many of you guys EQ at tracking?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but how many of you track WITH EQ? I know mic and preamp preamp choice in addition to placement should cover most of this, but how many of you EQ it up some as it goes to Tape? How much typically? I would also ask how many of you compress (By processing, not natural or tape saturation) to tape and on what and how much typically?
