Gear to begin learning on?

Well Ive been recording home demos with me and a friend for quite some time. Just one (sometime two) guitar track, bass, vocals, and the occasion drums. Im starting to upgrade to something a bit more professional and want to go the DAW route. I want a nice firewire interface (something like a MOTU 828 or the PreSonus Firepod) paired with a good preamp.

What gear = what quality standard?

I have a DAW with 3.4 Intel, 2 Gig RAM and 320 gig in hard drive space. I use Delta 1010 and Audiophile 24/192 cards. For some reason, the quality of recording on Audiophile 24/192 (not 24/96 card which came out initially) sounds better than on Delta 1010. I record keyboards and vocals mostly and rarely Guitar and I was comparing the quality of vocal parts.

Getting all my gear powered...properly

I'm merging my two rigs together. They were at different locations.
So now I have a zillion power plugs, and I think it's going to be too much for one 15amp circuit (wall outlet).

I need to calculate my power needs. I've read that a circiut using 14 gauge wire is:
(volts x amps = watts)
120 x 15 = 1800

From here, where do I go?
