Recommendations on software vs. . rack gear for voice?
I was all set to plunk down my credit card down on a Focusrite Voicemaster Pro . . . but then got to thinking: Adobe Audition (the sequencer I'm using) has a compressor, de-esser, expander, EQ, reverb, and even plugin tube effects in software (all of which can be saved as an "effects rack"), why would I want the VM Pro instead of Audition with a simple (but good) pre and an interface card?

The Missing Link (Gear suggestion)
This is what I use for mastering right now, in Logic Pro on a Mac G4 (original software of course)

Used Gear Sites?
I'm shopping for a used console and I'm growing impatient.
The eBay route is eternally frustrating (though I continue to throw bids around) and my old standby harmony-central.com is good for smaller items, though tends not to go above Mackie 8 bus boards in its mixer listings.

Gear for Vocals
What mic and pre would you guys recommend for Hip Hop vocals for about 1000-1500 USD. My sound card is an OMNI studio from M-Audio. Thanks for any suggestions. Maybe something TUBE?

Determining Gear Depreciation
As I begin down the road of making my studio "legit," I'm wondering how to determine how much various pieces of gear have depreciated for the purposes of tax write offs.
For cars, there's either Kelly or Nada blue books. Is there some kind of depreciation schedule or "blue book" for audio gear used in studios?

Making gear choices based on manufactures specs
I'll be one to admitt, I like to lust over certain performance specs that most manufactures post on their products. The one that gets me is, products claiming to stand up to gear costing 5 times as much and performing just as well. A lot of this is very misleading.
