Switching to a Laptop

Hi. I just started going to school in the city and am very much into audio recording. I use Pro Tools and have an mbox. Because of all the travel back and forth from school and home I have decided to look into getting a laptop to do my audio work on. Right now I have a P4 2.6 GHZ desktop with 512 mb ram and a single 120 gb hard drive. I would want something with at least the same performance.

Multitracking a band on my laptop

I would like to record my band, live, in a multitrack format with my laptop using Sonar as my software. I've determined that I need some type of interface in-between my mixer and my USB port, the majority of which (USB interfaces) seem to only have 2 inputs. Is this maneuver even possible considering that the drums will take 6 tracks, 2 guitar tracks and a bass?

looking for a quiet laptop for location recording

I am looking at buying a PC laptop for location recording, but want minimal hardrive and fan noise picked up in my recordings. I know the G4 powerbooks are relatively quiet, but I DON'T want to go the apple route. Do any of you folk know of a good alternative, processing power and having the latest impressive specs are not a priority here, I just want something that's quiet.
