Mac laptops for music
some questions I have:
1.)I'm thinking of getting a mac to use for recording, softsynth performance, graphic stuff, running applications like Pro Tools LE, Reason, etc . I already have the Mbox. Any models/configurations/setups that are known to work well? Can I use an ibook?
Or is now a bad time to get a mac lap top because of the intel chip switchover?

Recording max 8 channels with a low end Dell Laptop?
No plugins or ediiting needed, I plan to transfer recorded tracks to my home PC DAW for editing. I simply want something mobile to record 8 tracks max at 44.1/24bit (for drums, guitar, bass)
Can you get away with 256 Meg, less than 7200rpm harddrive, and 400 FSB? A low end Inspiron 6000 Dell selling now for around $600.
Or am I being too much of a tightwad ? :)

I wonder. Certainly, laptop HDD's are very reliable and robust, but its that old OS and some really crappy hardware around the HDD that worries me.

4-Track Laptop Recording?
What's available that can interface with a laptop via USB or FireWire that can handle 4 analog ins at once? I'm looking for something fairly inexpensive. The Traveler is nice, but it's way out of my price range. I've seen some decent interfaces, but they all seem to be 2 channels of simultaneous I/O. Anything good out there with 4?

From Dat to Laptop Question
How do I transfer audio from my Sony PCM-M1 to my Toshiba laptop? Do I need special software or hardware? Just connecting with 1/8 inchers isn't bringing up anything--I mean, I hear the audio, but nothing shows the capacity to record--I have Windows Media Player, Real Player, etc.
Any tips?
Thanks so much for your time.

Laptop, interface & burner needed for friend wanting to
G'day.
I have a friend that needs a Laptop for audio. I know much about PC's (boxes) but little about the laptop world.
We are looking for something around $600-800 US. Something not latest and best, but not old and crap either :)
