question about track level
Hi I finally got my new macbook pro and moto 8 pre and have just today tried a bit of recording just to get used to it. I am at the moment using garage band. I have a question about track levels. In Garage Band when I select a track to record there is a slider for input level or an option of clicking the automatic level control.

SPDIF Recording Level
I've been trying to go through and record all my vinyl to wave files. I have a Technics 1200 M3D running into a Tascam X-9 DJ mixer. I recently purchased the Tascam because I have decided to switch from DJing vinyl to CDs and it has two SPDIF inputs and one SPDIF Output.

Soundtrack - 828 - level mismatch
I'm using a MOTU 828 to record on Apple Soundtrack Pro, and outputting from the internal card. The Mac is an older G4.

Intermediate Level : Getting polished vocal tracks
Hi all,
My vocal and harmonies do not sound commercial CD polished. Subjective opinions aside, I want it to sound that way and I hope folks here can share some tips ; )
I know being a Beyonce helps but what I wish to find out is, beside vocal techniques, what recording techniques and tools can improve the situation.
Anyone else seen this about orchestra levels in the EU?
Pultec MEQ-5 relative output level = -3.5dB even in bypass?
Can this be right?
It's just been pointed out to us that our Pultec MEQ-5 drops the signal level by almost 4 dB, which we've confirmed in our lab with a signal generator / analyser.
After changing ALL the valves the relative o/p level is now -3.5dB but I don't know if this particular unit is supposed to be "zero in, zero out" or if this signal drop is normal.
Sound Levels
When operating a PA system, occasionally people come up to me at the end of a programme and say that the overall sound was too loud.
Mostly I have to sit at the front of a hall fairly near to the speakers and it is difficult to get an idea of the overall sound.

Sound Devices 722 Line Level inputs for External Pres?
I have a questions concerning Sound Devices 722. Apologies if this reveals an appallingly low level of technical knowledge.
Sometimes I use the analog inputs on the 722 line level with an external pre suich as the DAV BG 1 (yes it is a terrific pre, no doubt about it).
To what extent will the external pre be "coloured" by the 722 when used line at level?
