I running a pro tools setup through a Soundcraft Ghost...whats the best mastering software out there?

Years ago when I was just learning about audio engineering, I used to work for a University audio department. I had the long grueling job of remastering old reel-to-reel tapes of music by the composer for the symphonic orchestra :? . I would feed the signal into a Goldline spectrum analyzer and find where the peaks and valleys in the frequency spectrum were.

my problem is that when i record a song and make a mixdown in logic, it sounds great on my speakers, but it is way too bassy and has too little hi end when compared to mastered CD's or when played on another system.

Hey RO'ers, could anyone tell me what types of tools are used for mastering? I mean as far as compression, Eq, Limiters, etc. What can I use to get my recordings to have that professional sound?

For "real" mastering, what is everyone using? I do mastering and everyone says that I don't use "real" equipment, although I constantly hear that what I use has been used for major recordings. Also, I have never had a complaint from any of my customers.

This is a shot in the dark, but stranger things have happened... Does anyone know any of any studios in San José, Costa Rica that might want some cheap Reason 3.0-based mastering? I'm studying abroad here and I figure I might test out my idea of cheap "laptop mastering."

Any good basic tips for doing a separate master for something that will be hosted on Myspace?

I've got our song up, and the mp3 file on my computer sounds fine. But the streaming on Myspace gives it a real 'swish-y' type quality, especially on the cymbals.

Any tips on mixing/mastering for specifically for streaming audio?
