Up until now I have only been mixing using headphones.

Are monitors necessary for mixing, or just mastering?

I'm going to be sending my tracks to be properly mastered.

If you do recommend monitors for mixing, which ones should I get? I don't want to spend a fortune on them, and the room I'll be mixing in won't be acoustically treated.

Hello i was wandering how would i go about this " online mastering" should i ever want anything mastered by an expert, i guess first i would need some web space to upload my song, what file would i upload it as? how would i get it back? how much would it cost ? say for one song just to hear the results. Thanks.

i've been trying for some time now to get a more punchier, crisp, louder final result, but after I master my songs, then play them on a stereo, it's always quieter than radio songs. But if I boost the signal anymore on the program I use, which is Cakewalk Producer, it will feedback and distort.

Hello, I've been recording for a couple of years, basically just teaching myself as I go along, adding better microphones to my arsenal, and upgrading my mixer to a Yamaha AW-16G.

I have only been mixing through headphones (I'm going to buy decent monitors), and have only used the mastering presets on my digital mixer.

Im looking into any ideas on which computer,to use for mastering purposes only.
Im not looking for tracking/mixing,Im looking into a comp. thats specifiacally designed for mastering,,,,,complete with sorround sound capability.
Any ideas?-comments welcome.
