Hi all. I'm looking for input on mixing. I want to know where I should be setting my finished mixes to. Regardless of technique or any nonsense I'm just wondering about where you expect or more importantly want mixes to be in terms of db lvl.

So I'm doing a cover of The Beatles "Savoy Truffle" for my girlfriend 'cause she is crazy about the song. I like it, too.

My version is updated - a little heavier on guitars, more layered vocals, big huge brass (sax brass), and so on.

How do you set up the mix control to send audio to Optical out in to a Sony digital audio video control center?

I wanted to create this post for people who are new to mixing and have a desire to learn about it. This is more so a guide as to how you should be learning how to mix rather then teaching you about mixing itself. It is simply my opinion and you can take what you want from it.

Hi folks, This is my first post and also wanted to say thanks for the great music information and site! I am more of a musician than an engineer so I appreciate all levels of feedback.

I have been browsing around and reading quite a bit but did not see anything specific to my topic so I thought I better post my question.

I am mixing sampled, processed drums to a professionally produced track. I have never had near-field monitors before and am confused as to which ones to purchase. I was thinking about getting a better monitor to get better results. If I buy one good monitor, such as Genelec 8030a, will I be able to mix my drums with good results?

I was just wondering if anybody can tell me if Focusrite's Liquid Mix unit would provide better compressors and EQ then Logic's own.

Basically is it worth it?

Hello, inexperienced noobs here :)

OK so we have sort a a simple set up right now. While we have a tone of vintage and classic guitar, bass gear that you would drool over, the recording set up is RME Fireface 800 connected to a MAc Pro that has been responsible of putting all of our recording into Logic (9 at this point).

I need like an INDEPTH explanation, lol. Is there a site that I could read that has like a lengthy instruction on it - I need to know everything there is to know :/

I try to make music with synths and romplers but everything gets very confused. I try to raise the volume to distinguish sounds but everything gets even more mangled.
What should I do to avoid this?
