Up until now I have only been mixing using headphones.

Are monitors necessary for mixing, or just mastering?

I'm going to be sending my tracks to be properly mastered.

If you do recommend monitors for mixing, which ones should I get? I don't want to spend a fortune on them, and the room I'll be mixing in won't be acoustically treated.

I'm buying a new audio card along with some other bits and bobs for the studio.

I'm having a tough time deciding between the Lynx Two and RME HDSP systems.

I just got an Allen and Heath System 8, 16 channel mixer... and for starters lots of rotary knobs, the mic/line switches, and some channel faders are scratchy when moved, should i find out what allen and heath recommend for this board for a cleaner? or is there just all around great stuff to clean the knobs and faders ?

I currently use the Tascam FW-1884, but am interested in doing some OOB mixing. I have a few questions.

I realize that "best" is subjective. I'm curious if anyone has some good leads on reasonably priced studios with exceptional quality service which I can outsource mixing work too? FWIW I'm recording in Nuendo as 32bit/96kHz.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum... but I am in DESPERATE need of some help. I've been given a live CD project to mix and edit. I'm used to using Logic Audio on a PC... but this project required that I finally break down and get a mac (it was recorded in Pro Tools, audio files in mac format).

I have a well equipped studio capable of mixing to 5.1. Problem is, I don't know exactly how to capture this mix and then burn it down to DTS or AC3. I know that some very expensive programs are capable of doing everything but as I stated before I only need to capture and burn. If anyone can help me in this area I would appreciate it.

I read the white sheet from dbx and well have no clue about what is said. Thats right I'm an old disk jockey and all this technical stuff is lost on me so forgive the stupid question(s).

Just wondering if there are enough people on this forum mixing in 5.1 to merit a section on this?
