MP3 Podcast

(the thread that is)
Our church posts sermons online, and recently I've been pondering the codec I use. Currently it's 44.1KHz MP3, at 48Kbps CBR. Sermons work out at about 6MB per week (15 minutes or so in length).

Does MP3 encoding cause artifacts?
Just beating a dead horse. Occasionally when I listen to my iTunes library there are very subtle pops and/or crackles. I want to find out if this is a codec compression issue or a faulty pair of monitors. It happens intermittently, like maybe it is only certain songs or certain parts of certain songs.

Saving MP3 adds silence to end of track
Hi I just made an EP where all the songs segue into each other. Basically what I did was take all the songs and overlapped them or add segues together in a session in Adobe Auditions. Then I mixed them all down to a single 11 minute track, then I split them up into 4 songs so when they are played back to back there there is no silence AT ALL between the tracks.

How is my recording quality (mp3 attached)?
I recorded a piano trio (piano, violin, cello) rehearsal in a church using a Sony MZ-M10 and Core Sound binaural unpowered mics http://www.core-sound.com/mics/1.php.
Here is a sample of the recording:

How do I turn wav file (from Zoom) into MP3 file in iTunes?
I hope this is the right place to post this!
MP3 bit-rate realities
With Cubase/Wavelab, I wish to take my WAV file songs and make an MP3 version that I can load on my web site and send via email. I do not care about download times or file sizes. I only care about sound quality being as close to CD as possible.

MP3 BIT RATE CHOICES
This may be in the wrong section but...
Have any of you ever tested the difference between MP3 sample rates?
Is 320kbit overkill to the human ears?
I have one song I want to send out & want it to sound as good as possible.

Need divice to store and play MP3 recording
I am looking to add sound to an HO scale model railroad rotary dumper. I have an Edirol R-09 to capture the sound file from the prototype unloader which is aproximately 46 seconds in length. I am having a Pic micro controller programmed to operate the unloader and would like to have the sound file activated every time the unloader was activated.
