Multi-functional soundcards

Out of all of what's on the market (native audio), I personally think that the MOTU products are very close in spec's to that of Avid's Digidesign Pro-tools hardware. I wish their products did'nt cost so much, but then again, you get what you pay for. So in essence, we're paying for the converters and everthing else is just thrown in. The others on the market are for us budget minded folk.

Bar Scene Multi-Tracking

Okay I figured I would toss this out there and see if I can't get some wisdom from the local gurus. I have been asked to multi-track a few bands playing at a local bar. They are wanting it for demo CDs. I know this is not as ideal as taking them into a studio but what suggestion might some of you have. I have a few choices of equipment.

I need pro thoughts on multi-effects processors

It seems like every manufacturer has jumped onto the bandwagon with these. I've tried a few, but can't reach a conclusion on which to buy for fear that it will kill my recordings. I might play out with it once in a blue moon, too. I just want to be sure it's as clean and quiet as possible.
