Description

A preamplifier, also known as a preamp, is an electronic amplifier that converts a weak electrical signal into an output signal strong enough to be noise-tolerant and strong enough for further processing, or for sending to a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Without this, the final signal would be noisy or distorted.

Active FET preamp(acoustic guitar) direct.

...to the board, or analog audio microphone direct to the board? Pros and Cons? Suggestions?
I will be recording a blues medly with acoustic guitar and a single voice. By the nature of the song, the medley is better played and sung simultaneously than overdubbed, and I need not be concerned with the physical placement or presence of an additional mike.

preamps for vocals

Just wondering what you guys are using. I just realized today I've been using the same two for the last 9 years(Neve 1073 or Api 312). Once in a while I tried different things(Manley,Fearn,Avalon,Focusrite), but its funny I always come back to these two. I guess I was wondering if you had the same experience.

Focusrite Red Series preamps... opinions?

You know, I worked with this pre for a few days and thought it was wonderful. I rememeber, perhaps wrongly, it getting bashed as not being worth a crap. I was wondering what people here think of it and why. It doesnt get much attention in the top end pre market it seems. Actually, the only Focusrite mnetions I see are the cheap stuff and the ISA stuff.

"Driving" mic preamp's and other gear - overload

Care to discuss?

I have some TLA gear that likes to be 'driven' I have the option on some Neve channels but haven't learned the pro's and con's of it yet.

Who drives their mic preamp's or any other gear for that matter (& reduces the ouput level elsewhere) to get the sound they like?

Helios channels DONT like it at all!

Your thoughts?

Mic Preamps (Joemeek ?)

Hi

I use a Yamaha MD8 and the mic preamps are pretty bad. I was looking into mic preamps around the sub $300 price range. I was thinking of getting the Joemeek VC3Q which goes for $200. I'd like opinions of this unit and I'd also like to know if another mic preamp beats the Joemeek in quality in the $200-300 price range.

Thanks
