Good clean 2 ch pre for grand piano under $2000
Any recommendations. Piano is not bright, not dull, in the middle.
Need a clean 2 ch pre. Wouldn't hurt if the pre was good on mandolin as well!
Recording digital piano
What is the best way to record a digital piano? Is it better to go frome line-out on the piano to line-in on the recorder or is it better to mike the keyboard? Thanks in advance to all that answer, Van

Recording solo classical piano
Hi all,
I'm really curious to hear everyone's favourite way to record the piano. To me, this is one of the most interesting challenges in recording classical music. I know it's a huge area, and there are so many ways to do it that there could be an entire classical piano forum.

Piano recording technique question
What is the technique called when a piano is given that very percussive sound? Are the felt covered hammers actually exchanged with hammers without felt that are all wood for example? Are they simply covered with something hard? OR, is it an actual particular type of piano? If so, can it be done with a standard upright/grand? Any input would be great.
Take care everyone.

Piano sample disc
hello,
can anyone recommend a good collection of piano samples for use with a soft sampler (logic exs24 or kontakt).
The genre of music, for lack of a better description, is moody/experimental pop/rock. So probably a collection that is not too bright and chimey... something a bit darker... but not too dramatic (how's that for vague).
any thoughts are appreciated...

Charging for Piano Tuning.
Does anyone here charge clients to get a studio piano tuned for a session? I have always seen this as a normal thing studios (especially low cost studios) do and have had other clients pay for it without compaint but I have been trading emails with a prospective client recently and she seems fairly put off that I am asking her to chip in 1/3 of the tuning cost for her session.

Favorite piano mics?
Hi All, I recently had the good fortune to work out a deal for a friend's grand to live at my studio in exchange for free studio time. It's been a while since I had the opportunity to record any real piano tracks and I intend to beef up my mic arsenal. It's a vintage 6' Knabe in a large, live room with cathedral ceiling. Let the opinions rip!
