Description

A preamplifier, also known as a preamp, is an electronic amplifier that converts a weak electrical signal into an output signal strong enough to be noise-tolerant and strong enough for further processing, or for sending to a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Without this, the final signal would be noisy or distorted.

running a nice preamp through an ok mixer

just looking for a little feedback to see if this makes sense

I have an emu soundcard, just has 2 inputs, so I run everything through an onyx 1640 mixer. so I just send whatever I want to record down through two sub outputs on the mixer and mute everything else. I'm pretty satisfied with the mixer for direct sound, like hooking up a synth or pod, drum machine, etc to it.

HELP Noob needs good patch cords + preamp + interface!

I'm trying to make my home recordings sound better and need some advice, I do mostly electronic music.

Cords:
I'm totally overwhelmed on the amount of cords out there on ebay and can't figure out what is quality and will give me a great sound at a not too insane of price. I try doing google searches and can't find anything really.

I would like to buy a good mic preamp with digital outs, help?

I have a PreSonus Firepod (or FP10 as they are known now). I would like to find several options for a noticable upgrade over the PreSonus preamps. I would like to mention that for the price the PreSonus preamps sound very good. In order to use the PreSonus as the audio interface to the computer I will need a preamp that has digital outputs (S/PDIF) so I can bypass the PreSonus preamps.

Preamp within $250

I have two mics, an SM58 & a RODE NT1 and am using a PreSonus Firebox for recording. I would be recording one input at a time and it would be primarily voice and sometimes acoustic guitar or amped out electric. Could someone please guide me which preamp would fit my budget of $250. I am finding the gain on the Firebox rather low with the SM58 but just about acceptable with the RODE NT1.
