The Merits of Mixing on Stand-Alone Recorder, or Computer
Forums
I record onto an 8-track stand-alone recorder (Yahama MD8) records digitally through their analog mixer. It is an oldie, but a goodie, however as it is older, it does not have any kind of digital output. The only outputs are analog.
Marantz PMD Recorder Firmware Warning!
Forums
If you have any of the Marantz PMD digital audio recorders, whether you bought it last week or years ago, check the Firmware. I bought mine just a few months ago and was shocked this afternoon to find that the Firmware pre-dates the Internet. Well, almost!
Mine, a PMD620, came with Firmware A1.14. A2.33 came out May 4th, 2009. A2.03 was current in March 2008.

Good mic + cheap recorder. Can it do it?
Forums
Hello, I have a basic question:
I have recently become interested in getting a portable digital recorder.
My main uses would be in speeches, conferences, and one-to-one interviews. All of this for personal use, and occasionally for web posting.
I would be tempted to record live shows too, for the same purposes as above.

field recorder (?)

So... basically I need a convenient, portable recording device. I'm using it for compositional purposes (talking, playing piano, singing certain parts) because dictating it later is easy.
It needs to be able to organize the clips easily enough, which I suppose just means tracking them.

Low-priced portable recorder with high line-in level capabil
Forums
ity - does such a thing exist? I know the Edirol R-09HR can do about 1V (+2 dBu IIRC), but it's a little more than I would like to pay, and I would like even more voltage if possible.
Would prefer a lossless recording format but MP3 or ATRAC is not a dealbreaker for me.
Best portable recorder for violin/string quartet?
Forums
I am a professional violinist, looking for advice on a portable digital recorder to use in daily practice and recording of rehearsals. I want something small enough to always have it in my fiddle case, yet deliver sound quality good enought from the build in mics to use in demo recordings for my website.
Multi-track recorders
Forums
I've decided that I'm not a computer person and I'm gonna ditch my mixer for a multi-track recorder/recording workstation. Whatever they call it now. However, I've been looking just at musiciansfriend at the top sellers and i began to wonder about the actual tracks recorded.

I recently received some field recordings done with some sort of Sony digital 'walkman' style recorder. They sound FANTASTIC.
