ribbon mics for mains?
I have a friend/ engineer who wants to try this on a symphony orch in a Decca Tree configuration. He is, I think, new to classical recording. I am not, but I have little experience with ribbons in classical situations as mains- mostly because I am such a fan of top end that I prefer condensor's sound over anything 'duller'.

Micing techniques using Figure-8 Ribbons...
I've got a pair of Royer R-121's on the way (to play with before I make the financial leap to a SF-1.) I've used Figure-8 (on a pair of Shure KSM44 LDC) in Blumlein, half a MS rig, and as a semi coincident pair.
I've got both choral and organ gigs this week where I can experiment a big (supplement the main rig.)

The "new" Ribbon microphones...
Hello there,
I'd like to get information from people using those new ribbon mics.
I'm planning to buy a pair of ribbon.
- APEX 210
- SHINYBOX 23
- NADY RSM-2
- T.BONE RB500
Those appear to be the same microphone.
Anyone here has ever used one of them or has made comparison with others?

Those Nady Ribbon Mics
The singer in my band is a little hard to record. He has kind of a high voice (Robert Plant/Bon Scott, etc.)All my mics hate his voice (NTK,a couple of AT's,MXL's,etc.).They're all pretty bright, and they seem to over accentuate the treble content of his voice.

Any one try the new Nady Ribbon?
Its stupidly cheap and will likely live up to that standard. Its suppose to be a replica of a vintage model butwe know how that works. :)

Ribbon mic & sibilance question
Hi,
I've heard that ribbon mics are less prone to sibilance than, say, condensers. But is that just because they just have less top end?
If so, I guess this wouldn't solve a sibilance problem, because on boosting the high frequencies to get a desirable tone, wouldn't the sibilance return?

I just put them up, in a decadent multi-mic scheme, and ended up using as much of them or more than any other mic! Here are some clips.
