Hey everyone...this is a mutiple part question...

Right now I run an FW1884 with CubaseSX2 on an iMac G5. CubaseSX is what I've been using for a few years, but it seems unstable on both Mac and PC. I'm also not totally satisfied with the FW1884, and it could be my error, but it just doesn't sound very good no matter what room treatment, mic set up, pres, or instruments I use.

I have a GT Brick, and I also have two N72 channels on the way.

I'm considering selling the FW1884 and getting one of the following:

Digi 002R - From what I hear the editing is miles above Cubase SX, is more stable, and "sounds" better. I'd also have the freedom to mix PT sessions sent in by clients. It comes with a bundle of stuff including BFD lite and I can get back into writing my own music. I'm not sure if the plugs are any good, and I'm concerned about the lack of latency compensation.

RME Fireface - I hear that the converters are above average, and the pres don't suck. Seems like an "above consumer" piece of gear from what I've read.

Apogee Ensemble - Built for Mac, Apogee has a good name, but it is too new and there aren't any reviews yet. Looks to have similar I/O to the Digi002.

Mackie 1200F- Has tons of I/O, and I hear the onyx pres are not bad. I also hear that the conversion is pretty good as well. Having the onyx pres in conjunction with the few good ones that I currently have could be a winning ticket. BUT. as an interface I don't know if this would provide low latency and be stable.

Now unless I go with the Digi002...I'd have to find a piece of software that is powerful and plays well with an iMac G5 (non intel). Logic is too expensive, and I have DP 4.6 which I am starting to get comfortable with.

I'd be glad to hear some input, and your thoughts because my thought could be bunk for all I know.

Thanks in advance.

I find the apogee ensemble very appealing. If the A/D D/A follows suit with the rest of the apogee gear, it should sound better that the rest of the firewire interfaces on the market.

In fact, I think in a year or so i may buy a new mac. the ensemble (pending reviews) and pro logic.

THEN IiLL BE A TRIPLE THREAT like in theater... a singer , a dancer and a actor! :D

where's my email, Art...bastard
