I have been asked to mix a load of hardcore/metal bands at a local live music venue however their in house guy isn't there. As such iv been banned from touching the in house sound desk. He has set up an input to the power amps so can plugin my mixing desk (its beringher 1222fX). The preamps of this desk are pants and ruin vocals. Im not fussed for the rest of the instruments at this stage.

I have an ART V3 Preamp. If I ran main vocals through this for live use would it improve the sound masively? Or noticably? It does with recording, but I am yet to try it in a live situation.

Any helpful opinions welcomed.

Thanks

As soon as you run the output of the ART V3 into your 1222fX, you hit the sonic sculpturing that that board provides. However, if you noticed an improvement in the studio when using the ART going into the line inputs of the 1222fX instead of using the 1222fX pre-amps, then that should also translate to the live situation.

Otherwise, just make the best of what you have. Run with the faders on the 1222fX set high and the input gain trims set low. You maximize the input headroom that way.
