I am looking at investing in a suitable bass drum mic for the purpose of recording some seriously musical, resonating bass drums. If you're in to modern jazz of any sorts you'll know what I mean. Basically I need a fairly big bottom (...big bottoms. big bottoms, talking 'bout bottoms... my girls got'em... - Spinal Tap), but without the hype that the egg has got, and also the resonances up in the registers need to be nice and clear.
So... Basically I was hoping the D-6 is a good bet since it's supposed to have the punchyness of the dynamic and the clearness of the condencer because of it being a two headed monster! :twisted:
Anyway; Have you tried it and have you compared it to anything else?

Check out the Sennheiser e602 also, it has really huge bottom end response without being tubby, around $200 US. I get consistantly great results with it. I'm waiting for someone to do a shootout between it and the D6 to see what happens. I may have to borrow one and do it myself!
actaully what your describing seems to be the AT AE2500, dynamic
actaully what your describing seems to be the AT AE2500, dynamic and consenser in one drum mic. The D6 is solely a dynamic that does great job of reproducing deep low end. Deffinately recomend these mics, there cheap, well made, and sound great. For kick drums either an RE20 or D6 is great. Because of the D6's low end boost low end resonance is vey easy to get, it does a good job of briging out any low end present in the drum.
