Hi.
I'm heading to the states in a week and was planning on picking up some gear while I am there, I live in Israel and the price difference will certainly be worth it. I may have the opportunity to get a powered amplifier, but it will be set for 110V. I'm wary of using a converter. Anyone have experience/comments on using a 110 to 220 converter on an amplifier?

For power amplifiers I would stay off power converters. For smal
For power amplifiers I would stay off power converters. For smaller equipment it is probably Ok. Apart from the voltage difference it will also be a frequency difference (220V generally is 50Hz, not sure about Israel, 110V generally is 60 Hz). This has a number of effects, one is that the transformer runs warmer.
In some cases you might consider simpy changing the mains transformer in the unit. Given a good electronics shop they should be able to tell you if it is worth it (generally, it can always be done, but the price can be a bit steep).
Generally though, a lot of equipment is switcheable.

As far as converters go, just make sure it is high quality.
