Does anyone know if the book, "Audio in Cubase VST quick start guide" would help me? I have a copy of Cubase 5.1, but no manual. I checked the CD and I don't see a manual on there. I'm trying to use it with the Tascam US 428. I'm not having very good luck with the version of Cubase that came with the unit. Or should I look into some other kind of software?

Any thoughts would be helpful. I'm almost ready to sell this thing!

Thanks for listening
Lonman

But as a recording and mixing software I have found it to be very useable. The eqs are very good and the compression plugs do an ok job. The verbs can be done better but they work fine if you don't have anything else. The Wunderverb plug that comes with VST 5.1 is a pretty good sounding reverb. If you can't make a good recording with Cuebase 5.1, you need to address the talent department, get your hearing checked or do some work on your recording chops.

Maybe this will help:

I do find VST 5.1 a great program to work with. It does it all for me, including midi sequencing and the virtual instruments. As for the tascam thingy, I don't know. If you want useful advice, you'll have to be a bit more specific on your problems other than 'I'm not having very good luck'. ;)

Anyway, hope it will work out for ya. Don't give up hope on Cubase, it's the best thing out there so stay with it. Get a legit version though, it is worth the money. It bet you can get a cheapo used version from someone that switched to SX.

Lonman, I was in the same boat as you. Hopefully you haven't sold your stuff yet -- I'm getting pretty decent results with my setup (CuBase VST Score and a Tascam US428). I was lucky enough to have someone walk me through the process.

The only proviso is that I use a Macintosh. If you have a Mac, contact me by e-mail and I will GLADLY help you!

PS: If you want, post something at the Home Recording Forum at the Dude Pit. I know a guy there who uses a PC with Cubase SX and a US428. If I can't help, he probably can.

PSS: I do have the book you're talking about and if your roadblock is the initial setup, I don't think it will be of much use. That said, however, it's an excellent reference and if you can get it, by all means go ahead. (I was lucky -- I got mine used on eBay for something like $25.)
