I recently visited a studio, and was advised that the engineer not only uses mics on the drum set,but also uses the dm5 via triggs-not sure how he gets its done,,but the drums sound great.
My questions are
1. Can I record the drums via mics on my recorder, then send signals from channel sends to the dm5(basically taking the place of triggers)to gets drums tones from the unit-----or do I have to use the impact of the drum heads to set the triggers off to have the dm5 produce the processed sound?
2. Which triggers are better suited for the dm5-for recording purposes.
3. According to the engineer, the dm5 is the standard for studio use?

Im basically asking all these questions due to the fact,Ive recorded drums via mics, and no matter what I do,its always a time consuming process.
Im always trying to find ways to make things easier 8-)
